If you’re currently going to school and working a part-time or full-time job, you certainly have your work cut out for you. Between staying up late studying and working long hours, it’s pretty easy to feel overwhelmed.

If you’re looking to learn how to balance your work and school with online classes, here are some tips to consider:

Schedule them around each other: Figure out whether your school schedule or you work schedule is more flexible. For example, if your work schedule is able work around your school schedule, be sure to only work the days you’re not as busy with your online classes.

Don’t take on too much: In order to prevent feeling overwhelmed, it’s important that you don’t take too many online classes or work too many hours at work.

Certain days for certain things: To make your schedule as organized as possible, try to plan certain days for certain things. For example, if your online classes usually schedule your papers to be due on a certain day, take those days for school instead of work. Never try to do both in one day, as this may be overwhelming and too hard to remember each thing that needs to be done. Instead, focus on one or the other for the day.

As you can see, there are some great ways to make sure your school schedule and work schedule work well together.

Older students, returning students or professional working adults often find the prospect of studying for college degrees an attractive alternative to attending traditional college and university courses. Flexible scheduling, diverse course offerings and the ability to study from home while maintaining professional, financial and familial responsibilities can make online colleges great value for the money spent. Choosing the right online college for any individual is a process that should not be undertaken lightly, though, if students wish to receive a quality education and great returns on their investment.

First and foremost, separating the accredited online colleges from those which are not accredited makes a great deal of difference. Degrees from unaccredited online colleges are worth less than the paper that they are printed upon, even if students learn the same knowledge and skills from the same course materials offered by other, more prestigious educational institutions. Today, many traditional and well-recognized colleges and universities, both public and private, offer online coursework and degree programs that are flexible enough to offer students an excellent quality of education while still maintaining an accreditation recognized by other colleges and employers world-wide.

Choosing the right online college is all about getting great return on investment, and students of all ages are well-advised to do ample research before enrolling.

Finding the right online college is often a tricky process. There are many colleges available online today. The first consideration when choosing a college is the degree programs that are offered. Once you choose the degree program that you are looking for, you then can begin the process. Not all online colleges offer the same programs, so you will need to check into this. The other important item to consider is to make sure that the college is accredited. This could create potential problems down the road if the college is not.

Online universities offer a variety of ways to get degrees. Some of the traditional colleges that offer both online and class work will have the traditional type of schedule. The colleges that are geared for the adult learner will often times offer excelerated classes. This will be something that will have to be decided depending on your learning style. The accelerated classes are typically 5-6 weeks long. This can be a great environment to get your degree quickly. However, the classes do move very fast and it is takes a lot of dedication to get through these types of classes. It is important to know your learning style when choosing an online college.

Online colleges get a bad rap. They are often not considered equal to brick-and-mortar schools by hiring managers and human resources departments, and in many places have the reputation of being degree mills with an eye on the profit margin rather than places that provide good education. They also sometimes have the stigma of being an easy way to a degree by people who have attended real world schools. This does not have to be the case as the Internet does have the capacity for providing a reasonable education in a wide variety of subjects. Computer programmers, for instance, often learn the basics of their trade on a PC in their bedroom, rather than sitting in a classroom with other students. The ability to get classes via the Internet is also often the only way that people who have jobs and other responsibilities are able to access education.

There are many popular online colleges from the well-known ones like the University of Phoenix and Devry University, to established real-world schools offering courses on lectures online, like the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, in many cases free of charge. All of these places provide learning resources in one form or another and therefore the primary factor in how much is gained from the courses resides with the student. How badly do they want to learn? How well can they retain the information that is provided to them? How well do they understand it?

Degrees from any school, whether it be online or physical, are technicalities, they serve as unreliable indicators of what a person can do, since the student’s ability to perform well outside of a classroom is never guaranteed. This is truer in some professions than others, like construction jobs where much of the necessary skill-set is conveyed in on-the-job training and hours spent working on a job-site. In such cases the pedigree of a person’s degree may matter less to an employer.
